PROJECT OVERVIEW ⇢
Logisticus Group’s engineering team recently completed another unique project in central Illinois. Our customer located two older bridges that could not sustain the weight of wind turbine loads or concrete trucks utilized for turbine foundation construction, and requested we come up with a solution for them to overcome these challenges.
Our engineering team designed and procured two large prefabricated jump bridges to be be placed over the existing structures, and that could support the weight of the transport vehicles required for the job.
The engineering plan – which took approximately 3 weeks to create and then get approved by a certified Illinois state engineer – consisted of the following solutions:
⇢ a comprehensive traffic control plan
⇢ crane lift plans
⇢ installation plan
⇢ bridge load calculations
⇢ robust camber mitigation that utilized 300T aggregate
Our team then 1) sourced the prefabricated bridges; 2) installed them within 2 days; and 3) worked on our camber mitigation plan, which took an additional 3 days to install at each bridge site.
The bridge installation required the construction of custom crane pads, and the use of several 500T mobile cranes. Once installed, the customer began to utilize the new bridges just hours later to transport the concrete trucks needed to pour foundations for the new project site.
Our team was able to create and install this solution within 1 month from the project’s start date – all while working around the customer’s construction vehicles, and without affecting their schedule to complete pads prior to deliveries of the turbine components.
These prefabricated jump bridges are typically used for a single use on super-loads traveling in rural America; however, our team thought outside the box to create a semi-permanent solution.
